Program Title: Using Collaborative On-line Teaching Effectively
Program Description: Furr, McFerrin, and Fuller (2004) state that, “ Distance education is collaborative education.” (p. 209). However, relatively few instructors use effective collaborative teaching methods in on-line courses. Common problems found in collaborative learning (e.g., disagreements and inequitable work loads among group members) can be magnified in the anonymous atmosphere of on-line teams. This presentation will discuss these problems and make suggestions to minimize, and manage, them effectively. It will primarily address instructors in higher education but topics will also be relevant for K – 12 teachers.
